Happy new year and Finished to stay in Denmark no.2

Happy new year!!
Thank you very much for last year. I wish a new year filled with peace, good health and happiness for you.

It has been one month since posted last time.
The last month was rest time. Because I usually get sickness after long staying in oversea. How was that in this time??
Well....I caught a high fever which is around 40 degrees in this time. And I felt pain on my wrist and left arm as well because of too using.

Time goes very fast. It has already been a new year. But I feel that I have spent wondering and strange time for three years. I feel that to spend in Australia two years ago is recent event. But it makes me feel long to have been in Denmark in 2016. The last 3 years makes me feel long and short.
Any way, it was great time for me to spend abroad during last 3 years.

I had been at Royal Danish Academy, Design School Bornholm(KADK) in this time. I will post a article about KADK as an artist in residence.

KADK

KADK of main school is located in Copenhagen. Only Glass course and Ceramic course are on Bornholm island. People know that there are good clay on the island from long time ago. You can see many ceramic studios there. And it is warm weather. A lot of artist are living on the island. Some glass studios are there as well. I had stayed a school called KADK as an artist in residence who is like a guest student on this island.

The system of artist in residence is that you can go in the school for 24 hours, can use a cold shop where is grinding and polishing glass etc... room for 24 hours and can blow glass from 7am to 18pm include week end. That is so fantastic!
But you have to feed back to students and the school. So you have to do demonstration or slide lecture for them the end of the residency.

I was so happy. Because I had good partner who was another artist in residence from Canada. She has great skill. Blowing glass generally need to assist from someone. We were blowing together almost every day.

Equipments are also great. There are almost everything for making glass works. And you can use many color glasses for blowing for free. Some equipments from Swedish factory are unique and useful.
Ceramic class is by the glass class in the school. The students in ceramic part are more than glass. The amount of student in the school is 40 people. Man is 6, and woman is 34. Glass students are only 4 people without 2 artist in residence. But they used to be more. The school had been a international academy till 2014. But it had been the Danish school which only Danish speaker can go into since 2015 to 2016. The students decreased. Nowadays the school got back to international school from 2017. The school need to have international people now.

How about the school fee?
Actually it is very expensive for out of European like Japanese. It is free for Danish and it is cheep for EU citizen. But artist in residence is free.
The system for Danish and EU citizen is great. People can study a lots without anxiety of money. Danish government use tax clearly compare with Japanese one. Japanese need to change our politics. Japanese government is so unclear.

A main theme of the school is interesting.
When I joined a first introduction, a teacher told us the things bellow.

"The school is not competition. Don't compare with other people. Everyone sometimes have mental stress. Let's take care of each other and talk with each other a lots. There is a care room at the school as well. Let's make a great environment."

I was so surprised that teacher told it us at the first of the introduction. This must be Danish policy. This is a great policy even though we have to earn for life and glass artists should be getting famous to be alive. In fact, there is the things which is law of the jungle in the economic and the economic supremacy. But it is dangerous that our deep thinking is dominated by these.

How did I spend time at the school?
I normally worked at the hot shop for 6 hours almost everyday. In the other time of a day, I did cold working and so on. Sometimes teacher told me some things about my pieces. That was good for me. To make pieces was always connected to sale for these years. Efficiency was very important. I had forgotten deep and pure thinking to make works. I was going into the educational place. So I was able to use the time to think like that. I noticed a little that what is school role.

I had my project of taking photos. I took photos from the same place at the same time almost every morning for 2 months. My works come from nature and environment around my place of staying. Pictures were interesting, but also it was very interesting to feel atmosphere of the island when I went there to take it.

Photo project

It was always till late night, when we melt glass into the furnace. So we cooked and had dinner together then. We had sometimes Hungarian, sometimes Canadian, sometimes Japanese dinner and etc.....
And sometimes people who come from the Master class at Copenhagen and graduated KADK before come to the school to blow their works. I was able to observe their working and to communicate them. It was great.

Sometimes glass events was held with the ceramic people and graduated people at the glass hot shop. We used melting glass. Of course melting glass is very dangerous. It was interested to be held without staff of the school. I cannot believe that in the Japanese school. Everyone can support themselves. They know what is responsibility. They can think themselves and then they can act themselves. Japanese young generation looks child. Japanese should consider education from school and even from parents at home.

I did a demonstration for student. It was first experience for me. It was very fun even though my speech in English before the demonstration was halting. The audiences looked so relax with wine.

Actually I would like to stay Europe more. But my new stage and role are waiting me in Japan.
I am going to be a teaching assistant at the Toyama glass school from this April.

I didn't have any connection 3 years ago, when I started my journey from Australia. That was very fantastic. I needed to break me and construct me again. Sometimes the process is good way to make me develop. Finally I can say I am making my life by myself. My speed of progress is so slow. But I definitely advance.

I will believe myself and make effort to go to next high stage with anxiety and hope.
